Dear Fremont Unified Staff,

Fremont Unified School District is committed to equity in education - meaning that personal or social circumstances such as gender, ethnic origin or family background, are not obstacles to achieving educational potential and that all individuals are included. This year, our district has implemented several actions to reduce bullying and harassment of students based on race, color, or national origin called for in our Resolution Agreement with the Office of Civil Rights (OCR), including: The OCR Agreement will be in effect for a minimum of three (3) years, although our commitment to this work will be ongoing.

There are two other components to the OCR Agreement that we still need to meet – sharing updated policies related to student absences/ability to make up work; policies related to investigating and resolving reports of bullying or harassment; and conducting an online survey of students to gather additional information about bullying and harassment, beyond what the California Healthy Kids Survey assesses. The student survey will be implemented in September 2018 and May 2019.

Attached to this message are three documents: Please read and review these documents as they provide clear direction and support to staff in providing a safe, equitable learning environment for all students.
