Weekly Communication

Dear FUSD Community:

Allow me to put the name to the person, I am Raul Zamora, Acting Superintendent, for Fremont Unified. As a community, we continue to experience new lifestyles as we maneuver through our daily activities. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. I wanted to update you on two items: Professional Development and Meal Service.

On Professional Development: Our Educators continue to work with our students with distance learning delivered in various formats. As we enter our fourth week, our teachers, counselors, psychologists, nurses, to name a few groups, will participate in Professional Development on April 8th and 9th. The Curriculum and Instruction Department has developed an array of instructional activities to engage in and continue supporting our students. During this time, staff will not be available due to their Professional Development activities. Staff will be available at their own discretion. This time will allow for students to review material and finish any unfinished work before spring break. Our classified staff, which includes our paraeducators, custodians, clerical, child nutrition services, to name a few as well, will also participate in video training modules over an extended period of time. Keep in mind that Friday, April 10th, is a non-work day for all employees.

Second item: Student meals will continue with breakfast and lunches being distributed at Washington, Irvington, Kennedy and Cabrillo over Spring Break. Distribution Days are as follows: On Thursday, April 9th, three days of meals will be distributed to cover Thursday, Friday, and next Monday. On Tuesday, April 14th, four days of meals will be distributed to cover next Tuesday through Friday. After Spring Break, meals will continue to be served through the end of the school year.

The Board of Education and I have received several emails from our community to express concerns ranging from too much work being given to students, to just the right amount, to too little. Please know this is a delicate balance as we all experience a new method of learning. While districts varied on when to start distance learning from the first day of school closures to this week, Fremont was committed to starting this process on day one. Please email your student’s teacher if you have concerns and if you need a follow up contact with your principal.

All of us need to remain united during this challenging time. Every day we are reminded to cherish the moment with our family members, partners, guardians, and friends. On behalf of myself and the Board of Education, we would like to thank you for your support.

Please remember to practice social distancing of six feet, wash your hands periodically, no more than 10 persons in a room, and as of recent – wear some type of mask covering your mouth and nose when out in public.
